Profile :
Tony Hawk was a hyperactive kid with the IQ of a genius, who terrorised his nanny until she quit and even got expelled from school! Then at age nine his brother gave him a skateboard and his dad built him a ramp in the yard.
Skateboarding totally mesmerised him, and provided the only outlet capable of absorbing his boundless energy. A combination of determination and natural talent saw Tony progress at an incredible rate, and he began competing almost straight away.
Three years later he was sponsored, at fourteen he turned pro, and in the year he graduated High School he made more money than both his parents combined!
In a career spanning two decades, the Birdman won 73 out of the 103 contests he entered, totally dominating the vert skateboarding sport scene until his retirement in 1999. Having been the best for so long, he created his own personal goals; a wishlist of tricks he knew in his mind were possible. The last of these to be accomplished was the legendary 900 degree aerial, which he finally pulled off after ten years of trying, at X Games 1999.
Tony has been at the centre of skateboarding’s explosion, from the Dogtown days to the era of the X Games and eight-figure salaries. Tony Hawk’s pro Skater is the best selling computer game of all time, his skate video ‘The End’ is the biggest selling skate video of all time, and his autobiography sold out of print before it was even released!
Right now Tony is chilling in his $1.6 million house in California, with his gorgeous wife Erin and his 3 kids. But is he the ultimate legend of the extreme? Well that’s up to you to decide!
