Bob Burnquist
Three things you should know about Bob:
1. In 2002 Bob opened Burnquist Organics, an organic fruit and veg company that sells exclusively through his restaurant, Melodia
2. Bob featured in a ‘Got Milk? Mustache Campaign’ to try and show that drinking milk is cool!
3. His first sponsor, called Momento Angular only bought him a Coke when they visited the skatepark – no big bucks for him then!
Profile:
Since exploding onto the contest scene with a win at the Slam City Jam in 1995, Bob has continued to stun crowds and judges with his untouchable vert skateboarding skills. In his 12 years as a pro skater, he has racked up countless medals and accolades, including the Triple Crown Vert Award, Thrasher 'Skater of the Year' (’97) and multiple X-Games medals.
But to anyone that's watched Bob skate, it almost comes as no surprise that he's become the best vert skater in the world. Bob has the kind of gritty determination that growing up on the tough streets of Brazil will give you. The kind of determination that pushed him to doing a loop-the-loop on his skateboard - then doing it backwards. And when everyone else is still reeling at the switch loop footage in disbelief, Bob’s already eyeing up a concrete full pipe at Mount Baldy, California. After 14 attempts at looping that, his foot broke and he finally called it a day.
Bob is a renaissance man, and when he’s not tearing up the ridiculously big vert ramp in his back yard (see Hallowed Ground!), he’s running his family restaurant, or hanging out with his wife Jen and daughter Lotus. He has accomplished everything he has ever dreamed of, rising from the streets of Rio, to becoming one of the most respected and influential skateboarders of all time.
