Profile :
Life hasn't been a smooth ride towards the X Games, double backflips and big paychecks, for Dave Mirra. Although he was jumping curbs at the age of 5, the first competition he entered saw him placed second to last!
But Dave knew he had the talent and perseverance to make it as a pro, and most of all he just wanted to ride his bike. He spent his school life studying bike magazines, ignoring the teacher’s pleas for him to focus on school; and he walked out of a car-washing job after just three days! Gradually his dedication to riding paid off, and as a teenager he got picked up to tour the States doing BMX demos, eventually becoming sponsored by Haro bikes (who he’s stayed with ever since).
Then as Dave’s career as a pro rider was really taking off, he had the misfortune to get hit by a drunk driver - twice! After his second accident, where he got thrown 20ft, doctors told him he would never be able to ride again. But a determined Mirra returned to his home in Greenville N.C, he decided to push himself to his limits and rebuild his life.
Since his miraculous recovery, Dave’s career has gone from strength to strength. He’s become the most decorated BMX rider in history with his 12 X Games medals, (and an extra medal for holding the most Golds!) He’s also featured in his own video game, and now tours the US in the Dave Mirra Supertour. Most of all he’s fulfilled his main goal; to ride his bike every single day.
